Historically, we as counseling
professionals have thought of GRIEF as a response to death, and
it certainly is that. But over time, we have come to
recognize that grief is a natural and human reaction to loss.
How do we adjust to “living without”? Perhaps it is the
loss of a job, loss of a partner or parent due to divorce,
moving from a familiar school, adjusting to the retirement of a
beloved colleague or school principal, the loss of innocence or
even the loss of status because of illness or injury. Loss
can be, and is, everywhere.
George Scott,Educator, Family Therapist, Statewide Coordinator for the Traumatic Loss Coalition and Founder of Minding Our Children will offer the opportunity to reflect on personal loss, professional loss, and the grief seen in our students, clients and colleagues. Because loss is inevitable, how do we facilitate healing and recovery from the pain of emotional injury in ourselves and in others?
